It combines short bursts of intense activity with periods of less intense activity or rest. <\/p>\n<p>High<br \/>\nintensity exercise raises your heart rate to above 90% and forces your body<br \/>\ninto an anaerobic state. This depletes the glycogen in your muscles much faster,<br \/>\nand forces your body to start burning fat for energy. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Why is HIIT so Popular?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s Faster<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can be<br \/>\nin and out of the gym in less than 30 minutes. Sounds like a dream, right? <\/p>\n<p>Twenty minutes of HIIT exercise is equivalent to 40-50 minutes of regular cardio exercise. This makes it ideal for people with busy schedules who only have time to squeeze in a short workout. <\/p>\n<p><strong>It Works<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>HIIT is one<br \/>\nof the best ways to get in shape within a short time. Your body burns more fat<br \/>\nduring HIIT and keeps burning it for up to 48 hours after your workout. This<br \/>\nmeans that you\u2019ll see results much faster!<\/p>\n<p>HIIT is also one of the few workouts that burns fat while retaining muscle mass. This makes it the perfect cardio exercise for bodybuilders or anyone wanting to preserve their hard-earned muscles. <\/p>\n<p><strong>It Can be Done Anywhere<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Traveling<br \/>\nfor work and don\u2019t have access to gym equipment? No problem, just do a HIIT<br \/>\nworkout. As long as you can do a high intensity activity<br \/>\nsuch as sprinting, jumping jacks, burpees or mountain climbers, you can do a<br \/>\nHIIT workout. <\/p>\n<p><strong>HIIT Workouts for Beginners<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Running + Power Walking<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This starter<br \/>\nworkout involves running as fast as you can for one minute (or a few seconds)<br \/>\nand then power walking for 2 minutes. Repeat these two exercises five times for<br \/>\na short but effective 15-minute workout. You can do this work outside or on a treadmill.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tabata<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Tabata is a<br \/>\ntype of HIIT exercise that involves pushing yourself hard for 20 seconds and<br \/>\nresting for 10 seconds. This cycle is repeated 8 times for a total of 4<br \/>\nminutes. <\/p>\n<p>The high<br \/>\nintensity exercises can be jumping jacks, burpees, pushups, mountain climbers<br \/>\nor squats.
